A former Virginia delegate is behind bars on drug and gun charges.

The Campbell County Sheriff's Office arrested Matt Fariss Saturday night during a traffic stop.

He's charged with possession of narcotics, possession of a firearm, and violation of a protective order.

Fariss previously served as a Republican delegate of the 59th District, which covers parts of Campbell and Nelson counties.

This is not Fariss' first run-in with the law. Earlier this month, a jury found him not guilty of numerous felony charges, including malicious wounding and hit-and-run, after his ex-girlfriend claimed he hit her with the side of his car during an argument.

Fariss did not speak with ABC13 after the trial.
