Child seriously injured when van slams into tree

HOWELL COUNTY, Mo. (KAIT) - An 8-year-old girl was flown to the hospital after the van she was riding in crashed into a tree.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported the crash happened at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, on U.S. Highway 63, north of Brandsville in Howell County.

According to the preliminary crash report, 30-year-old Allie N. Dudgeon of Milton Freewater, Oregon, was northbound when her 2019 Dodge Caravan drove off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Dudgeon suffered moderate injuries. Her passengers, 25-year-old Abigail R. Allen of Milton Freewater, Oregon, and two children suffered minor injuries. All were taken by ambulance to Ozark Healthcare in West Plains.

Another passenger, described as an 8-year-old girl, suffered serious injuries and was flown by helicopter to CoxHealth Medical Center South in Springfield.

The MSHP report said Dudgeon and all four passengers were using safety devices.
