Man, child in minivan die after crash with dump truck: MHP

HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. (WKRG) — A driver and his 13-year-old passenger are dead after a crash with a dump truck on Thursday.

Troopers with the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to Highway 49 in Harrison County after receiving reports of an 8 a.m. crash, according to an MHP press release.

INCIDENT LOCATION:

Investigators said the crash involved a 1998 Freightliner dump truck and a 1998 Chrysler minivan.

According to reports, a 29-year-old Saucier man was headed south on Highway 49 when the dump truck he was driving collided with a minivan crossing Highway 49 at Nobles Road.

The minivan’s driver, 68-year-old John Edward Potts, and passenger, 13-year-old Victoria Hutcherson, received fatal injuries in the crash. They were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.

Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances of the crash.
