Jazz F Lauri Markkanen Ruled Out vs Wizards

The Utah Jazz will be missing their best player versus the Washington Wizards.

The Utah Jazz have had good fortune regarding the injury bug this season, but that luck may be running out. Starting forward Lauri Markkanen will be missing Monday night's contest versus the Washington Wizards with a right quad contusion. Andy Larsen of the Salt Lake Tribune reported the update on Sunday Night.

Markkanen was visibly not 100% in Saturday night's loss to the Miami Heat, and there is no update on how long he may be out. Markkanen does have a history of injuries in his past, but has been relatively healthy this season. He has played in 51 out of 61 games this season.

With the Markkanen news, the Jazz will be leaning heavily on the rookies if they're going to come away with the victory. First-year players Keyonte George and Taylor Hendricks are developing right before our eyes and will have to continue their stellar play on Monday night. However, they may also get some help versus a Wizards team that's in a down-world spiral.

The Wizards are currently riding a 14-game losing streak and are in a tie with the Detroit Pistons, who have the worst record in the league. The Jazz haven't been much better lately and have lost eight of their last nine contests.

Something will have to give on Monday night, but despite missing their best player, the oddsmakers have Utah pegged as an eight-point favorite. The tip-off at the Delta Center is at 7:00 pm MST.
