COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - Diapers are a basic need for local families, but the ability to provide them may be harder than you think.

One in three families struggle with diaper need. Diapers cannot be obtained with food stamps. Infants require up to 12 diapers per day, at a cost of $70 to $80 per month per baby.

It was a beautiful day in Columbus - and we’re not just talking about the weather - as your generous hearts stopped by WTVM’s one-day drop-off for our annual diaper drive.

WTVM and Junior League of Columbus asked for your help and the community did not disappoint because with your generous donations over 15,000 diapers were collected to be distributed throughout the Valley.

The Junior League of Columbus is a nonprofit and volunteer organization - comprised of only women. The organization works to provide diapers to families in a financial bind.

“We have the diaper bank. So, we try to collect diapers from the community and then we basically store them and distribute them to around 16 different organizations that help us distribute them locally,” said Maegan Huff, President of Junior League of Columbus.

The nonprofit’s diaper bank is part of the National Diaper Bank Network with more than 225 diaper banks across the country.
