GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WCSC) - The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office says a 14-year-old student is facing a criminal charge in connection with a text message.

The student, who attends Carvers Bay Middle School, sent a text message Saturday stating that he planned to “shoot up the school” on Monday, investigators say. The student allegedly sent that message to a fellow student, deputies say.

“When confronted, the boy admitted sending the text,” sheriff’s office spokesman Jason Lesley said.

Investigators searched the boy’s home and found no credible threat, Lesley said. They did not release his name because of his age.

The child will also face discipline according to the Georgetown County School District’s disciplinary policy, deputies say.
