MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - A Montgomery man has been charged with three counts of attempted murder after shooting at police in the area of Lagoon Park Thursday evening.

According to court documents, on Thursday at approximately 7:35 p.m., Lorenzo Monta, 37, of Montgomery, fired several shots at patrol officers from the passenger window with the intent to commit murder.

Court documents state that Monta was a passenger in a stolen vehicle that was involved in a pursuit. Monza could be seen hanging out of the passenger window, firing multiple shots at patrol officers pursuing the stolen vehicle.

The pursuit ended when the vehicle came to a stop at Glade Park Drive and Hilda Drive. Court documents say both passengers exited the vehicle and were taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.

Once in police custody, patrol officers located a stolen gun in Monta’s pocket. The vehicle pursuit and the foot pursuit were all caught on police dashcam footage.

Court documents state that police recovered shell casings at Lagoon Park Drive, where Monta was seen shooting at officers. The casings, as well as the gun, were tested by NIBIN and were found to be a match.

Monta is currently being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $195,000 bond.

No further information has been made available in this case at this time.
