Memphis Grizzlies not expecting injured Derrick Rose, Ziaire Williams to return this season

A Memphis Grizzlies season filled with injuries continues to take hits. The team announced Tuesday afternoon that Derrick Rose and Ziaire Williams might not return this season.

Rose will be reevaluated in three weeks as he deals with a groin injury. Williams is dealing with a Grade 2 strain of his hip flexor and lower back muscles. He will be reevaluated in four weeks.

The Grizzlies (21-41) have 20 games remaining this season, which ends in a little more than five weeks.

Each player is likely to receive an updated timeline after reevaluation.

Williams was having his strongest stretch of the season. He averaged 12.8 points per game in February while shooting 45.3% from the field. Both were season highs before he suffered the injury in the Grizzlies' overtime loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on March 2.

Rose has dealt with injuries for the majority of the season. He has been available for 24 games and hasn't played a stretch of more than five consecutive games at any point this season.

The Grizzlies are already without Ja Morant for the remainder of the season because of shoulder surgery. Desmond Bane (ankle sprain) and Marcus Smart (finger) have been dealing with their injuries for more than two months, and there's no current timeline for their returns.

Brandon Clarke is close to fully healthy after suffering an Achilles injury last season, but he also doesn't have a timeline set.
