Leela Rose, an employee at Slammin’ Brew, a new coffee shop on South Warren St., jumpstarted Tuesday morning with wonderful news.

“We now have pork roll for our breakfast sandwiches,” the part-time employee, full-time student at The College of New Jersey, advised.

Sold. Pork roll, egg and cheese. Cup of coffee. Seated myself near a window that faces out toward South Warren St. — perfect for people and world watching.

Have lived in or just outside Trenton city limits for more than 40 years, and have tasted pork roll sandwiches throughout New Jersey. Slammin’ Brew delivered the best pork roll, egg and cheese ever. The pork roll had been sliced razor thin and layered, eggs were fluffy, and cheese melted into gooey splendor. And, the Kaiser roll? Anyone who knows anything about sandwiches or burgers, knows that the better presentations can be submarined by bad rolls.

It’s imperative that a pork roll, egg and cheese on a roll sandwich gets cut in half. Waited for my girlfriend to find a parking spot (more on that soon), sipped coffee, took first bite of sandwich and South Warren St. turned into the Beatles’ Penny Lane.

The Fire (men) Rushes In

Actually several Trenton firefighters from Ladder 4 strolled into Slammin’ Brew after three city police officers had entered.

So, there’s a ladder truck parked across the street and a police vehicle parked in a space that would get Joe Citizen a parking ticket. In fact, a Slammin’ Brew manager received a ticket during her first week on the job. Imagine, $50 in the hole before the first cup of coffee gets poured.

Plus, a parking enforcement officer buzzed South Warren St. while a tow truck waited for any driver to violate parking rules in a nearby private parking lot. It’s just not business friendly in a city that craves business.

That fire department vehicle used three spaces. No issue exists here with Trenton’s finest stopping there. The space should be made available for parking between 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. for 15-minute parking.

My girlfriend got frustrated after driving three times around the block in search of a parking space. Thankfully, Slammin’ Brew offers passes for two-hour parking in the nearby Liberty Commons Parking Garage on East Front St. It’s a wonderful parking option for lunch but not breakfast.

Grand Opening

Slammin’ Brew will host a ribbon-cutting event on April 3 at 11:30 a.m. Stop by. Wish the Brew Crew success and allow me to suggest coffee and the pork roll, egg and cheese. Careful where you park.

Starbucks

Honchos from the coffee kingpin could arrive in Trenton by early April to discuss future plans for the South Warren St. business.

Imagine a potential photo shoot of Gov. Phil Murphy, Sen. Corey Booker (D-NJ) Rep. Bonnie Watson-Coleman (D-14th), Mercer County Executive Dan Benson, Mayor Reed Gusciora, plus, seven members of city council and a few church pastors. And, extend an invitation to former Sen. Bob Torricelli who showed business savvy to purchase property in downtown Trenton and near the Trenton Transit Center.

They all should make a visit to Slammin’ Brew.
