Annual Pizza Party raises 500 donated items, $750 for Clyde Back Door Food Pantry

Another successful Pizza Party for the Pantry was completed March 16 with more than 500 items collected and $751 via donations and raffles. The party was held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, hosted by Theresa Herman and Brenda Fisher and their families. All donations benefited Clyde's Back Door Food Pantry. The 2-hour party was filled with fun, raffles and conversation, with more than 50 in attendance.

The day for some did not end with the party, as the 500 donations of canned goods, toiletries and paper products were then loaded into cars and trucks to be transported to the food pantry, where they were unloaded for stocking on shelves by volunteers attending the party, some for the first time.

This is the 12th year for the event, which began at the Clyde Public Library until it expanded to the cafeteria at Clyde High School and finally to the parish hall at the church, where it was held for the third consecutive year.

Donations of raffle prizes have increased from two during the first few years to 14 this year from businesses, families and individuals from Clyde, Fremont and Bellevue, plus three gift certificates.

Individual donations included two dozen eggs from Ada Williams, a small snowman quilt made by Sandy DeNudt and a gift basket from Bev and Bill Albright. Pizza was provided by Marco’s, Big D’s, Blue Collar Bistro and Pizza House; soft drinks by Miller's Super Valu; and cookies by Subway. Family Dollar provided paper goods.

The party hosts wore matching t-shirts with a total solar eclipse theme, printed especially for their 12th year.

Clyde Museum to open for season March 30

The Clyde Museum will open for the season March 30. Two antique paintings recently donated are on display in the Hurd Room. One is a John B. Tichenor painting done in 1901. The other painting is done on glass by Marcia Davlin Dills in 1888. She was a Clyde resident who had lived in Whitmore, which today is known as Vickery.

Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Thursdays, or by appointment, by calling the museum at 419-547-7946.

The museum also has programs at 6:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month through October. The March 11 program with Kenneth Montrachet portraying Harry Truman had 60 people in attendance. The April 9 program, "Marrying History with Innovation" will be presented by Justin LaBenne, Clyde City manager.

The annual meeting will be held before his talk. Information on future programs is available on the museum Facebook page, Clyde Museum and General McPherson House.

Flight postponed once more

The intended flight around the world by former Clyde native Tim Tarris and Canon Bleeker, both of Arizona, has been postponed for several reasons, beginning with difficulties encountered in South America, which were compounded with voided permits and paperwork, with the current Middle East circumstances an important consideration.

After their return from a five-day delay in Lima, Peru, it was determined that mechanical issues with the Cessna engine required a complete evaluation. The inspection revealed the aircraft will be out of service for several months. Determining a new window for their adventure requires coordinating availability for both Bleeker and Tarris and is dependent on when the aircraft returns to service.

Their goal remains to complete a circumnavigation of the earth. They appreciate all who helped, supported, watched and diligently tracked them. "When we begin our trek again, we look forward to bring you all along on our adventure," Tarris said.
