A Funeral Service will be held for Arthur “A.P." "Red” Collins, Jr. on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. Fr. Neil Pettit will conduct the service. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024 in the funeral home from 8:30 AM until the time of service; the rosary will be recited at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at St. Landry Cemetery in Opelousas.

A.P., a dedicated and compassionate man, passed at his residence on February 22, 2024 at the age of 101, leaving behind a legacy of selflessness and kindness. Born in Opelousas, LA, he lived a fulfilling life by service to his community and country.

A.P. served in the United States Army as the Communications Chief from January 1943 to October 1945, demonstrating his commitment to duty and honor. Following his military service, he worked diligently as a clerk for the City of Opelousas for 30 years. Starting in the water department and later transitioning to City Hall, his strong work ethic and reliability made him an invaluable member of the team.

Known for his willingness to lend a helping hand and share his skills, A.P. was admired by all who knew him. He found joy in utilizing his talents as a skilled craftsman in carpentry, plumbing, and electricity. His expertise brought comfort and assistance to many within the community.

He is survived by his daughter, Doris Ann Collins of Opelousas; his sons, Glenn P. Collins of Opelousas and J. Neil Collins and wife Ann of New Iberia.

He is preceded in death by his wife of over 69 years, Doris Trahan Collins; his parents, Arthur P. Collins, Sr. and Anita Bernard Collins; 2 brothers, Pete Collins and Martin Collins; and 3 sisters, Cecile Bienvenu, Ella Wyble and Cora Darby.

Pallbearers will be Keith Bono, Larry Savoy, Ardel Courvelle, Herman Fisette, Floyd Trahan and Mark Carstens. Honorary pallbearers will be Raymond J. Burleigh, Calvin Marks and Allen Savoy.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Randy J. Daigle, Dr. Yu-Cheng J. Chen, Dr. Michael F. Doucet, Dr. Anu G. Desai and Dr. Jason Trahan, their care and compassion shown was greatly appreciated. They would also like to thank Ms. Stephanie Roberts, she was their guardian angel in their time of need.

As we bid farewell to A.P., we honor his memory and cherish the impact he had on all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace, forever fondly remembered, and deeply missed.
