All-State basketball teams:
Senior girls basketball players Reese Terwilliger and junior Lennix DuPris were both voted second-team all-state for their contributions towards the Govs 17-7 season in which they placed fifth in the state.
Terwilliger averaged 14.7 points and 5.7 rebounds, while DuPris averaged 14.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.1 steals.
Stanley County senior Broch Zeeb was named honorable mention all-state with averages of 21.3 points and 14.3 rebounds.
Pierre track and field:
At the Ruth Marske Invitational at SDSU, the Govs had a number of standout performances. For the boys’ team, Jared Lutmer finished second in the 3,200 meters with a time of 9:28.99 and 4th in the 1,600 meters with a time of 4:25.58.
Colby Cerey finished 3rd in the pole vault at 12-06. Greyson Schuetzle finished 5th with a time of 15.81 in the 110 hurdles, and second with a time of 41.31 in the 300 hurdles. Carson Stoeser finished 5th in the long jump at 6.11 meters.
On the girls’ side, Kali Ringstmeyer finished second in both the 100 and 200 meters with times of 12.36 and 26.02 respectively. Reese Terwilliger finished second in the shot put at 12.92 meters. Kali Ringstmeyer, Jasmine Jost, Allyson Bauer and Charlee Williams-Smith finished fourth in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:19.58.
Pierre boys tennis:
Pierre’s boys tennis team went 1-2 at their opening weekend invite at Rapid City. On Friday, they lost to Rapid City Stevens 0-9, and Rapid City Central 5-4.
On Saturday, they beat Spearfish 5-4, with Lucas Hight, Jacob Leiferman, and Weston Northrup earning wins at first, third, and fourth singles respectively. In doubles, Lucas Hight/Leiferman, and Levi Hight/Marty Blanchette came on top in first and third doubles to seal the team win.
AAU Wrestling:
Last Friday, 50 of Pierre’s AAU wrestlers competed in the state championship in Rapid City. 33 wrestlers finished in the top eight, and Jayce Jensen, Harper Spoehr, Olivia Deffenbaugh, Asher Spoehr, Sydney Caven and Lexie Hillmer were all state champions. Friday’s session also included a High School/Cadet freestyle session, and Sydney Uhrig and Rowdy Menning were champions.
Pierre swim team:
From February 29th to March 3rd, competitors from Pierre’s swim team participated in the 13 and over State A Championship that was held in Watertown from February 29th until March 3rd.
In the boys 17 and over division, Mason Ward-Zeller finished first in 100 back,100 fly,200 fly,100 IM, and 200 IM. In the girls 15-16 division, Sorrine Ekle finished 5th in the 1000 free, while Charlie Hull finished 4th in the 100 fly, 200 free, and 50 free.
