A man was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison in Salt Lake County for his involvement in two separate incidents of murder and aggravated robbery.

Nestor Del Valle, convicted in connection with two separate incidents, received the sentence from a Third District Court judge on Tuesday.

Del Valle's charges stem from events in September 2022.

According to court documents, Del Valle approached two men on Woodstock Avenue, demanding they "run their pockets." When they fled, he fired multiple shots, one of which struck a cell phone in a back pocket.

In a separate incident six days later, Del Valle confronted a 16-year-old and his friends in Midvale. After asking where they were from, he opened fire, hitting one of the teens before fleeing the scene.

Del Valle received 15 years to life for first-degree felony murder related to the Midvale homicide and an additional five years to life for first-degree felony aggravated robbery from the Sept. 9, 2022 incident.

Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill announced both sentences will run concurrently.

“This defendant’s risk to our community will be answered by prison for a long time. Violent acts that cause injuries to others will be aggressively prosecuted,” said Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill. “I hope these convictions will allow the victim’s family to begin healing. I want to thank Unified Police for gathering the evidence necessary to secure these convictions. I also want to thank our prosecutors and support staff for their dedicated efforts.”
