MATTOON — The Mattoon Middle School Reading Committee recently announced "City Spies" as the 22nd annual Read Across Mattoon book.
Students on the committee picked the book, written by James Ponti.
"City Spies" is an adventure series that takes readers through many twists and turns with five spies: Paris, Sydney, Brooklyn, Rio, and Kat. The book offers a page-turning adventure when Sarah faces years in juvenile detention and is banned from using computers to do the one thing she loves to do, which is hack.
"This book is an excellent page-turner that is fast-paced with mysteries abound,” adviser Ingrid Minger said.
Read Across Mattoon encourages community members to read the book along with middle schoolers to help promote literacy. Individuals can pick up a grant-funded copy in the Mattoon Middle School office or the Mattoon Public Library. Each book has a QR code inside that students ask readers to scan and complete a survey to provide feedback to the committee on the book.
