CALEDONIA, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities in southeastern Wisconsin are investigating a crash that damaged five vehicles on Monday morning and resulted in one minor injury.

According to the Caledonia Police Department, officers responded to a four-vehicle hit-and-run accident in the 4900 block of Douglas Avenue at around 8:45 a.m.

While the officers were blocking a traffic lane to protect the scene, the vehicle that caused the initial accident returned to the scene and drove into the back of one of the squad cars.

The officer was out of the vehicle and was investigating the initial crash. The operator of the vehicle, an 85-year-old from Caledonia, suffered a minor injury.

Although five vehicles were damaged, police say the outcome could’ve been much worse.

“With the aging of our population and the availability of motor vehicles, please talk with elderly family and friends who may no longer be able to safely operate on the roadways,” stated Caledonia Police.

The driver was issued numerous citations for both accidents, and a driver’s condition report was generated. This will force the Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles to review the driver’s ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.

No additional details were provided.
