Sooners included in top 5 for 4-Star TE Nate Roberts

The Oklahoma Sooners are hoping to put together back-to-back recruiting classes with elite tight end prospects. After earning the signature of 2024 four-star tight end Davon Mitchell in the last recruiting cycle, the Sooners are looking to add Oklahoma native and four-star tight end Nate Roberts in the 2025 recruiting class.

Once committed to Notre Dame, Nate Roberts released his top five programs as the 2025 cycle enters the spring. The Oklahoma Sooners were included alongside Ohio State, Penn State, Ole Miss, and Oregon. Though the Sooners are the hometown favorite, with Roberts’ Washington High School just outside of Norman and Nate’s brother Jake on the roster for 2024, OU will have to contend with some really good programs to earn a commitment.

While the Sooners are in good standing, the Ohio State Buckeyes currently look like the biggest threat to pull the No. 2 player in the state of Oklahoma out of the Sooner State.

Nate Roberts is an impressive athlete at 6-4 and 235 pounds. As a junior, he had 38 receptions for 816 yards and eight touchdowns. According to his HUDL profile, Roberts had 479 yards after the catch, highlighting his game-breaking athleticism.

Roberts shows the ability to run a varied route tree and does a great job catching the ball with his hands. He’s really good at climbing the ladder and attacking the football in the air. Once in his hands, he’s a big play in the making. Roberts doesn’t go down on first contact, which allowed him to pick up big gains after the catch.

Nate Roberts will be a big time player for whichever program is fortunate enough to land his commitment and signature. Though the Buckeyes may be the favorite at this point, Oklahoma’s shown to be adept at turning the momentum in big-time recruiting battles. Here’s hoping the Sooners can make it happen again for the Oklahoma native.

Projections

Soon after the Notre Dame decommitment a flurry of predictions dropped favoring the Sooners. On3’s Sam Spiegelman, Josh McCuistion of SoonerScoop and On3, Rivals Clint Cosgrove and OUInsiders’ Parker Thune and Brandon Drumm each put in picks for the Sooners. Spiegelman flipped his prediction from Oklahoma to Ohio State back in December.

Currently, each of the crystal ball predictions from 247Sports favors the Buckeyes, including one from Director of Football Recruiting Steve Wiltfong.
