USF overpowers ECU 81-59 in AAC tournament third round

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — On the third day of the AAC championship tournament, the USF Bulls proved why they were the conference No.1 seed. With strong double-digit performances by Kobe Knox and Selton Miguel (17 points each) as well as support from Kasean Pryor and Chris Youngblood (10 points each), the USF Bulls beat the East Carolina Pirates by 22 points in the third round of the American Athletic Conference men’s basketball tournament at Dickies Arena in Austin, TX.

Under Head Coach Amir Abdur-Rahim, the Bulls went into halftime with a 14-point lead. They kept that lead throughout the second half, ending with a runaway 81-59 victory.  As a team, the Bulls had 14 3-point throws with Knox winning the cowboy hat with 5/6.

Naismith semifinalist

This past week, Abdur-Rahim was named a semifinalist for the Werner Ladder Naismith Men’s College Coach of the Year. This win was the largest margin of victory since 1990 when Bobby Pascal coached the Bulls to an 86-59 win over Jacksonville on their way to winning the then-Sunbelt Conference championship.

On Saturday, the Bulls will face the winner of the Wichita State vs. UAB game. Tip-off is at 3 p.m. EST and is on ESPN2 and Bulls Unlimited radio.  There is also a watch party at the Yuengling Draft Haus on North 30th Street in the University neighborhood.
