Peyton Manning discusses his unusual Olympics role, Bill Belichick, Tom Brady on TV

Part of the "ManningCast" is going global.

Indianapolis Colts legend Peyton Manning will join Mike Tirico and singer/TV host Kelly Clarkson to host the opening ceremony at the Paris Olympics.

There's a twist with the ceremony: The athletes will ride boats down the Seine River, concluding at the Eiffel Tower, rather than walking into a stadium.

"I kind of argued with (Tirico) as to why he and NBC thought I was worthy," Manning told The Athletic. "He said they were bringing in Kelly Clarkson to kind of give the perspective of a fan and wanted me to share the perspective of what these athletes are thinking about it."

Manning's Omaha Productions has a close relationship with ESPN, and the network signed off on his arrangement with NBC.

It also allows Manning to keep a promise to his mother, Olivia.

"One of the other reasons I did say yes was because I took a little French in high school," he said. "My mother said, 'I want you to take me to Paris one day.' And 30 years later, I'm fulfilling that promise."

Peyton Manning on Bill Belichick in broadcasting

Manning is intrigued with the possibility of adding former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick to the Omaha Productions lineup.

"If it comes to fruition, I think fans will be excited to see how incredibly brilliant Bill Belichick is when talking about football, and how witty and funny he is," Manning said.

Peyton Manning on Tom Brady in broadcasting

Manning said fellow legendary quarterback Tom Brady has asked him for broadcasting advice. Brady will become a Fox NFL game analyst this fall.

"I said, 'Tom, I watch football from my neighbor's garage on Monday nights. I'm not sure I'm worthy of being called for advice for what you're about to do."
