SPRING, Texas (KIAH) — Montgomery County deputies shot and killed a man they say slammed into another deputy’s patrol car.

It happened around 3 a.m. early Sunday morning on I-45 near Pruitt Road in Spring.

A deputy was trying to pull over 39-year-old Inyerman Jose Munoz, but he took off until he was blocked by an existing crash investigation.

Investigators say Munoz then went into reverse and sped backwards, slamming into the deputy’s vehicle as he was trying to get out, knocking the deputy down.

Two deputies from the crash scene saw what was happening and opened fire.

The deputy was taken to the hospital and is expected to be ok.

The two deputies involved in the shooting incident have 2.5 years and less than one year of law enforcement experience.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office investigation is ongoing and being conducted per policy jointly with the Texas Rangers and Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office. Once concluded, the case will be presented to a grand jury.
