Four people were arrested in Riverside County as a result of two DUI checkpoints, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced Saturday.

The checkpoints were conducted Friday night, and a total of 1,850 vehicles — 842 in La Quinta and 1008 in Canyon Lake — were contacted by deputies.

The first checkpoint was held at the intersection of Avenue 52 and Jefferson Street in La Quinta from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. One person was arrested for allegedly possessing methamphetamine.

The second checkpoint was held at the intersection of Railroad Canyon Road and Sorrel Lane in Canyon Lake from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Two people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. One additional person was arrested after a vehicle pursuit, according to the sheriff’s department.

Funding for both checkpoints was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
