Online sportsbooks in West Virginia saw a hold of 11.1% in February, despite suffering a loss during Super Bowl week. The total handle for the month was $38.8 million, a 16.4% drop from January, and the revenue also fell by 37.9% to $3.7 million.
Despite the Super Bowl week loss, mobile sportsbooks still managed to bring in over $3.8 million with an 11.1% hold, similar to January's 13% win rate. The decline in betting during a month with only one NFL game led to lower tax revenue for the state.
February's handle was up 2.4% from the previous year, and revenue spiked 34.3%. The year-over-year hold was 9.7%, representing a 2.6-point increase. The combined online and retail hold was almost a point above the average since West Virginia sports betting started in 2018.
The Greenbrier's partners, FanDuel and BetMGM, had the highest handle in the state at $16.5 million, followed closely by Hollywood Casino at Charles Town with $16 million in wagers.
Retail operators in the state suffered losses, with the Greenbrier alone losing over $144,000. On the other hand, online casinos in West Virginia achieved a new state record with revenue of $17.4 million, up from $14.9 million in January, contributing over $2.6 million in tax revenue.
