Civil War: How Much It Will Really Make at Box Office

Civil War has major buzz, but how much is it really expected to make at the box office?

Alex Garland’s action thriller arrives in cinemas 12 April, 2024, and it’s on track to be A24’s biggest release to date. The company predicts its film’s opening weekend to hit somewhere between $15 million and $20 million.

Other tracking services are slightly more conservative, estimating no more than $15 million.

Even the lowest forecasts still comfortably beat A24’s previous frontrunner, Hereditary, which opened to $13.6 million in 2018. That said, there’s a lot more riding on Civil War, given its high cost. With a budget of $50 million, it’s A24’s most expensive title to date.

It helps that relentless positivity came out of early Civil War reactions: viewers called it a “modern masterpiece.” It’s currently riding a high 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes after 34 reviews.

Civil War is set in a near-future dystopia and follows wartime photojournalist (Kirsten Dunst) as she and her colleagues navigate a fractured United States.
