MCHENRY — Deep Creek Winter Sports Team (DCWST) athletes have had a strong run of successes on both the ski and snowboard side this winter season.
The competition season for team athletes has culminated in dozens of podium finishes, state and regional qualifications and podiums, and national championship qualifications.
For snowboarding, Avery Badalian, Faith Montgomery, and Sydney Scott all qualified for nationals in Slopestyle (13-14 girls) and Gage Schwinabart has qualified for both Slopestyle (13-14 boys) and Rail Jam (11-14 boys). Additionally, Badalian and Scott also qualified for Rail Jam (11-14 girls).
Schwinabart is now ranked 27th out of 189 in national rankings for slopestyle, and 20th out of 283 in national rankings for rail jam. Scott is ranked 38th out of 100 in rail jam and 47th out of 57 in slopestyle. Montgomery is ranked 56th out of 100 in rail jam and 52nd out of 57 in slopestyle. Last, Badalian, who will be traveling is ranked 32nd out of 100 in rail jam, and 36th out of 57 in slopestyle. The team wishes Badalian the best of luck at Copper Mountain, Colorado in the slopestyle and rail jam National Championships.
On the ski side, Warren Hilbert-Graham (U16) had an impressive season conclusion, finishing first out of the Pennsylvania competitors in Slalom and Giant Slalom at the Eastern Finals at Gore Mountain in New York’s Adirondack Mountains March 17-20.
In Slalom overall for the Eastern Region, Hilbert-Graham finished 20th, for Giant Slalom, 25th, and Super Giant Slalom (Super G), 28th and second out of all Pa. competitors in Super G. DCWST athlete Trent Bray (U14) also traveled to Sugar Bush Resort in Vermont for the U14 Eastern Championship Races where he represented the Pa. State Team in competition.
