There is really no way to sugarcoat how bad the Texas A&M Aggies were on offense in 2022. They averaged 22.8 points per game, good for 101st in all of FBS, on a mere 360.9 yards of total offense.

Simply put, they need the offense to improve drastically heading into this season, which is why they went out and hired Bobby Petrino to serve as the new offensive coordinator.

While the results on the field are still yet to be seen from a Petrino offense in College Station, tight end Max Wright is excited from what he's seen so far.

"The offense that Petrino brings, I love it," Wright said. "It's a dynamic offense in terms of how they use a tight end. We have different personnels where we have three tight ends on the field at one time."

"Sometimes creating some mismatches in terms of blocking schemes, being able to utilize two tight ends on the ball while also having a tight end in the backfield at the fullback spot."

Wright's numbers from 2022 may not jump off the page at you, as he recorded only nine receptions for 129 yards and a touchdown while appearing in eight games. However, he could see an uptick in production in Petrino's offense.

"In terms of how Petrino uses the tight end, it's pretty similar in wanting to get the tight end the football in the passing game," Wright said. "I really like how he also uses the tight end in deception, as well, in terms of motions."

"Multiple motions in different directions at different times, disguising different alignments for different receivers. Moving two guys at once and creating a single receiver side. I think that the way that he uses the tight end is really versatile and I really love it."

The Aggies will hope the hire of Petrino brings a new spark of life to an otherwise lethargic offense - and if he utilizes tight ends as well as Wright described, they'll like the odds of him doing so.
