Leaflets calling for ignoring presidential election disseminated in frontline area in LPR

Chairwoman of the LPR Election Commission Elena Kravchenko said that "people continue voting, despite the threats from Ukrainian neo-Nazis"

LUGANSK, March 16. /TASS/. Kiev regime supporters have disseminated leaflets calling for ignoring the Russian presidential election in a frontline area in the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR), chairwoman of the LPR Election Commission Elena Kravchenko said.

"Leaflets of the provocative character calling for not taking part in the election were found in one of our districts (near the combat engagement line). In the Svatovo district. But our people continue voting, despite the threats from Ukrainian neo-Nazis. They will not intimidate us, we are voting for our future," she said.

She reported earlier that on the first day of voting, people were evacuated to bomb shelters from 11 polling stations.

Voter turnout in the LPR was 58.22% as of 3:00 p.m. Moscow time (12:00 GMT) on the second day of voting.

The Federation Council, the upper house of Russia’s parliament, officially designated March 17, 2024 as the day of the presidential election. The Central Election Commission (CEC) then announced that voting would take place over three days on March 15-17.

Four candidates are vying for the top office, namely New People party nominee Vladislav Davankov; self-nominated candidate and incumbent President Vladimir Putin; Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) nominee Leonid Slutsky; and Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) nominee Nikolay Kharitonov.
