Pro-Trump Lawyer's Arrest Sparks MAGA Fury

The arrest of a pro-Donald Trump lawyer accused of involvement in a plot to overturn the 2020 presidential election result sparked a furious response from supporters of the former president and other conservatives on social media.

Stefanie Lambert was arrested on Monday after failing to comply with court orders from a Michigan case in which she was accused of tampering with election machines during the 2020 election. The arrest took place after a court hearing in which Lambert represented former Overstock CEO Patrick Byrne, an outspoken supporter of Trump's claim that the 2020 election was rigged against him, in a lawsuit brought by voting machine manufacturer Dominion Voting Systems.

Last week, Trump secured a string of primary victories to become the Republican Party's presumptive candidate for the 2024 presidential election. The former president is engulfed in legal battles, including four criminal cases, which he and many of his supporters insist are part of a politically motivated plot to prevent a second White House term.

Reacting to the arrest on X, formerly Twitter, Andrea Shaffer, a self-identified "American Constitutionalist" who is "pro-life," posted: "This is crazy. Attorney Stephanie Lambert was in D.C. as part of a hearing over her leak of emails from Dominion Voting Systems when she was arrested by marshals."

Donna Brandenburg, a former Michigan gubernatorial candidate who describes herself as an "America First Patriot," posted: "Stephanie Lambert was arrested by US Marshals for demanding the law be followed. She only asked them to follow the law. They used and abused process to go after her. They forced a bench warrant while it was on appeal. Corruption...they are attempting to hide their crimes..."

X user "Paige R." from Houston, who identifies as a "MAGA & Constitutional Conservative" posted: "Lawyer, Stephanie Lambert, has been arrested while attending a hearing in DC. The deep state is real. They don't want the Dominion information to be heard."

A fourth "MAGA Conservative" X account replied to the news of Lambert's arrest by tagging in Republican House Speaker Jim Jordan, adding "this is Urgent!"

On March 13 a court filing from Dominion's legal team alleged Lambert had violated a confidentiality order by sharing information she obtained through Byrne's defamation case without authorization.

Speaking to Newsweek about the allegation she said: "I have sworn an oath as an attorney to uphold the Constitution of the United States, and I will do just that. I will pursue truth and justice on behalf of my clients and country."

When contacted for comment by Newsweek for comment a PR agency working for Dominion Voting shared a motion filed by the company which accused Bryne and Lambert of engaging in "a fragrant and ongoing breach of this Court's order" by sharing documents related to the defamation case with third parties.

In April 2023 Fox News agreed to pay Dominion Voting $787.5 million as part of a settlement after broadcasting what it admitted were false claims linking the company with an alleged plot to steal the 2020 presidential election from Trump.
