West Chicago house left uninhabitable after late night fire

No injuries were reported during a late-night house fire in West Chicago Tuesday that left the home uninhabitable with extensive fire damage.

West Chicago Fire Protection District officials said the fire began on the deck of the home and extended into the attic and walls of the tri-level, single family house on the 30W300 block of Pomeroy Street.

Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire when they arrived just before 10:30 p.m., but had the fire under control within 10 minutes and were able to entry into the home at that time.

Firefighters remained on scene for more than an hour checking for hot spots and performing overhaul operations.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
