Rainy and cool tonight and then a cool breeze in Saturday's forecast

Rainy and cool tonight and then a cool breeze in Saturday's forecast
FIRST, THIS IS WVTM 13 WEATHER. THIS FRIDAY STARTED WITH A REALLY NICE SUNRISE AT LUNKER LAKE ATOP OAK MOUNTAIN AND OAK MOUNTAIN STATE PARK. THAT’S A VIEW FROM DAVID GRAVES. WE HAD SOME SHOWERS AT TIMES TODAY, BUT IMPACT WEATHER GETS HERE AGAIN NEXT WEEK, AND IT’S MAINLY FOR TUESDAY THAT WE’RE WATCHING FOR THE POTENTIAL OF HEAVY RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS. 1 TO 2IN OF RAIN, AS WELL AS SOME GUSTY WINDS. I THINK THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT IS VERY LIMITED GOING INTO NEXT WEEK. AND HERE IN THE SHORT TERMS, IT’S JUST OCCASIONAL SHOWERS AND MOST OF THAT’S NORTH OF BIRMINGHAM. TONIGHT WE’RE GOING TO BE IN THE 50S AND THEN TOMORROW AFTERNOON WE’LL WARM UP VERY SIMILARLY TO HOW TODAY WORKED OUT MID 60S IN THE AFTERNOON, WITH A PARTLY TO MOSTLY CLOUDY SKY, BUT THIS TIME INSTEAD OF AN EAST BREEZE, THAT WIND IS SHIFTING AROUND TOWARD THE NORTH, AND THAT MEANS THINGS ARE GOING TO DRY OUT SOMEWHAT. HERE’S WVTM 13 LIVE DOPPLER RADAR. YOU GOT A LOT OF 50S WHERE WE’VE HAD MORE PERSISTENT RAINFALL. IT’S BEEN IN THE 70S IN TUSCALOOSA AND EUTAW, BUT NOW CLOUDS AND SHOWERS ARE TAKING THE NUMBERS DOWN THERE. BIRMINGHAM’S AT 61, PELL CITY AND ANNISTON ARE IN THE UPPER 50S. SOME OF THE HEAVIEST RAIN THAT WE’VE HAD HAS BEEN MAINLY IN MARION COUNTY ALONG HIGHWAY 43, HIGHWAY 187, SHILOH, RIGHT UP TOWARD THE FRANKLIN COUNTY LINE. IT’S POURING ESPECIALLY ON THE WEST SIDE OF HACKLEBURG, DOWN TO PLEASANT RIDGE AND OVER TO SCOTTSVILLE, UP HIGHWAY 19, HEADED TOWARD VIENNA IN INTO FRANKLIN COUNTY, THEN OTHER AREAS OF RAIN EXPANDS OVER WEST JEFFERSON COUNTY FROM ALLIANCE TOWARD DORA SUMITON OAKMAN PARRISH JASPER THE HILLIARD COMMUNITY, AND THEN ON UP TOWARD CARBON HILL AND HUBBERTVILLE BARRY. WINDHAM SPRINGS IN TUSCALOOSA COUNTY. SEEING THOSE SHOWERS GET A LITTLE BIT BIGGER AS AN UPPER AIR DISTURBANCE. OR SOMETIMES YOU MAY REFER TO ONE THAT’S SPINNING LIKE THAT IS SIMPLY JUST AN UPPER AIR. LOW EXPANDS THIS DIRECTION, AND UNDERNEATH IT YOU CAN SEE THAT WE EVEN HAVE A FEW ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPING OVER MISSISSIPPI. NO SEVERE WEATHER TONIGHT, BUT IT WOULDN’T BE SHOCKING TO HEAR SOME THUNDER OR SEE A FEW FLASHES OF LIGHTNING AS THIS BATCH OF DOWNPOURS PASSES THROUGH TUSCALOOSA, BIRMINGHAM, HOOVER AND ALABASTER AROUND MIDNIGHT TO 1 A.M. THEY’RE GOING TO FIZZLE BEFORE THEY REALLY MAKE MUCH OF AN IMPACT OVER EAST ALABAMA. AND THEN TOMORROW THE CLEARING LINE GETS INTO THE SHOALS BY 7 A.M., BUT IT MAY BE A WHILE BEFORE WE CAN COMPLETELY CLEAR THE SKY IN BIRMINGHAM. MAY ALSO HANG ON TO A FEW SHOWERS AND SOME DRIZZLE THROUGH THE EARLY PART OF SATURDAY MORNING. BUT BY SATURDAY AFTERNOON, IT LOOKS LIKE WE SHOULD AT LEAST BE INTO THE MID 60S WITH A FEW RAYS OF SUNSHINE BEGINNING TO BREAK THROUGH. SO AGAIN, WE TALK ABOUT THAT IMPACT WEATHER EARLY NEXT WEEK, HEAVY STORMS, 1 TO 2IN OF RAIN, WIND GUSTS AROUND 30 TO 40MPH. THERE IS A RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER, MAINLY WEST OF ALABAMA AND MISSISSIPPI, LOUISIANA, ARKANSAS, TEXAS, RIGHT NOW, I DON’T SEE ANY REAL RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER HERE, AND THAT’S WHAT IMPACT DAY REFERENCES. WE DON’T LOOK FOR A LOT OF INTENSE THUNDERSTORMS HERE, BUT THE WIND IN THE RAIN COMING THROUGH IS CERTAINLY GOING TO MAKE YOU WANT TO RETHINK ANY OUTDOOR PLANS FOR THE FIRST PART OF NEXT WEEK. WIDESPREAD SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS MOVING THROUGH TUESDAY AFTERNOON. TUESDAY EVENING IT COULD RAIN FOR MUCH OF THE DAY ON TUESDAY, AND THAT’S FOLLOWED UP BY SOME DRIER WEATHER BY WEDNESDAY.

Rainy and cool tonight and then a cool breeze in Saturday's forecast
Occasional light, scattered showers continue through the night. More rainy, stormy weather hits on Tuesday after a drier weekend. Check the video forecast for the latest. SHOWERS LINGERING THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHTExpect occasional light to moderate showers through the night into Saturday morning. Most of us only get a small fraction of an inch, but one batch of heavier downpours passing through Tuscaloosa, Centreville, Alabaster, and Clanton could drop more than a half-inch of rain before sunrise Saturday.WEEKEND WEATHERClouds and some light showers linger over east Alabama into Saturday morning, but rain on Saturday does not look like a deal-breaker for outdoor events. It will be cloudy and cool in the morning, and it could take several hours for the sun to break through the overcast. The air stays cool Saturday with limited sunshine and a stiff north-northwest wind around 10 to 20 miles per hour.Sunday looks brighter and warmer. Temperatures rebound to the upper 60s and lower 70s under a mostly sunny sky.The sunny, warmer weather Sunday also leads to a quick increase in the amount of pollen drifting in the air for Sunday and Monday.IMPACT WEATHER NEXT WEEK The last week of March brings Impact Weather back to Alabama. Tuesday will be an "Impact Day" because it looks very windy and wet. TIMING: "Impact Weather" begins early Tuesday lasting through Tuesday afternoon. The heaviest rain and strongest wind gusts likely occur between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. with a slow-moving band of storms.RAINFALL: Most communities in North and Central Alabama will get at least 1 inch of rain Tuesday. Some spots could get up to 2 inches of total rainfall by Wednesday night.WIND: Expect a gusty south wind between midnight and noon Tuesday. Occasional gusts could go as high as 45 miles per hour (especially on ridgetops).SEVERE WEATHER: The Storm Prediction Center outlines a specific threat of severe thunderstorms west of Alabama on Monday. Recent trends in model guidance show slower movement across the state, and that could allow for some severe weather risk in Alabama on Tuesday. The slower the system goes, the more time there is for warm, humid air to destabilize the atmosphere. We will watch the threat and keep you posted. Some showers could linger into Wednesday morning, and we expect another round of rain ahead of a cold front by Thursday and Good Friday next week. EARLY LOOK AT EASTERThe Easter weekend is still more than a week away, but we are beginning to see a trend toward some cool, dry weather.Good Friday may be wet as a cold front passes, and that would make six straight rainy Fridays in Birmingham. Cooler, drier air should take over for Saturday and Easter Sunday, making for chilly nights (30s and 40s) and mild days (highs in the 60s).If this trend works out to be the solution, you can expect a chilly, possibly frosty, morning for Easter sunrise services next week.STAY WEATHER-AWAREFor the latest weather coverage for your area, click here.
