About Progressive home insurance

Progressive provides standard home insurance for damages and necessary repairs and add-on coverage for other structures on the property, personal belongings, temporary living expenses, personal liability and medical payments. The company also offers auto insurance, life insurance and other protection policies, which you can bundle with your home coverage for reduced rates. It also has several other discount opportunities.

Progressive home insurance coverage

To begin, you can get a free online home insurance quote from Progressive’s website. You can customize the quote to meet your coverage needs and take advantage of any available discounts. You can also use Progressive’s HomeQuote Explorer tool to compare home insurance rates and coverage options from a variety of providers. It’s important to note that homeowners insurance policies from Progressive do not cover damages due to:

  • Mold and mildew
  • Termites
  • Floods
  • Earthquakes

You can also call a Progressive representative for more details.

Progressive home insurance quotes and cost

Progressive’s home insurance quotes can range from $675 to $2,045 annually depending on your location and the level of coverage you need, and its deductibles cost from $500 to $5,000. If you want lower monthly fees, you can select a higher deductible limit — but this will mean you’re responsible for covering the deductible amount before your insurance kicks in.

Progressive also offers savings of up to 12% on car insurance when you bundle it with a home insurance plan. Its other money-saving opportunities include:

  • Home security discounts
  • Advance quotes (10 days before policy starts)
  • New home purchases
  • Pay-in-full discounts
  • Email communication opt-in
  • Single deductible for bundled plans

You can work with a Progressive agent to identify discounts available to you.

I had Progressive for about 4 years for auto and homeowners insurance. I never filed a claim for either. Then they canceled my homeowners insurance saying that it was because I lived in California. They even had me on the phone for 15 minutes, pretending to not know I live in California before they told me the news. They said it was the fire danger in CA. I told them they gave me the lowest danger rating for fire when they insured my home. They didn't care. I guess you could live in an underwater home or in Death Valley in CA and they would still think there was fire danger. Intelligence doesn't run strong with this shoddy company. They will screw you over out of the blue. I immediately went to USAA Insurance and they signed me up immediately.

Progressive don’t care about their clients. They just collect your money every month. My water heater bust in my house where my shoes was and damage my shoes. I sent pics in. Had proof of ownership in. They first was looking for anything to deny me then they ask me did I had proof of have the shoes. I sent pics of me wearing them then they had some lady contact me which was a manipulator and was playing both sides. Fake acting. Cool on the phone then sent a email saying the pics wasn’t enough. I’m in the process of hiring a attorney. If I can give them a zero I would. They're unprofessional con artist and liars. They don’t care about their clients. I really feel they're racist and they think ** people can afford designer or expensive things so they assume you're lying. Please do not waste your time.

I had a sewer backup in my new 1 year old home. Sewage flooded my bathroom, bedroom and walk in closet. The adjuster would not return calls or emails, it took them 3 months to pay the water restoration company who cleaned up the mess. After waiting 3 months for pay, they threatened to put a lien on my home if they didn’t get paid. They gave me such a small amount to fix my floors and replace my carpet that I ended up paying a large amount out of pocket. The adjuster was basically nonexistent. I had USAA for years but switched due to the increase rates, big mistake.

When calling Progressive to update something as simple as an address for my homeowners insurance you can expect to spend over 1 hour waiting. They transfer to different department or companies (homesite home insurance) again and again, and each time it takes about half an hour waiting over the phone. All in all, you can expect to wait over 1 hour to do something as simple as updating an address -- it is completely insane.

Some guy came to my door claiming to do inspection for Progressive, exterior home. I requested his business card or ID, he refused and walked away. I don't have policy with progressive however I submitted a quote online and I didn't like their rate, regardless they still send some rude people banging on our door.

We changed our car insurance to Progressive so bundled our home insurance also. 4 months later we got a notice that a home inspection was necessary (never needed one the 7 years we were with Geico). I emailed the inspection company and never heard back. Then 6 months later we get a notice that our insurance is not being renewed because we did not let them make an inspection. The underwriter said the inspectors contacted us multiple times. I asked for proof of an email - as they certainly did not respond to mine. Of course they did not have this. They said they left 3 voice messages - I went through every message received for 3 months and there was no message from Texas state inspectors. They do not give you a phone number that you can contact - say you can only email them.

If they make it this difficult for someone with a fairly new custom home, no claims, perfect payment record and credit score of over 800 to renew, I can only imagine what hoops and lies we would have to navigate if we had an actual claim. There is no customer service, no way to contact them and no warning of notice to stop coverage. The only correspondence we received was from an underwriter telling us they were not renewing. We jumped ship rather than start the process over as they make it very difficult to communicate and we found them to be very unethical. And that is the behavior when they are trying to get your money!

I wish I had seen all the negative reviews before I signed up. I am just very thankful that we never had anything happen during that period as I can't imagine the nightmare we would have had to deal with filing a claim. I have absolutely no faith in them making good on any damage claim payments based on the lies and red tape we already experienced. You can get better, more reliable coverage elsewhere at competitive rates.

I got a renters policy with Progressive in 2022. I went with them due to I already had my car insurance with them and never had any issues. First year of the policy was fine although it was a high price and I was suppose to get a discount on my car insurance but did not. It did not affect my car policy in any way. This year when the policy renewed I was double charged the first month which I disputed but nothing happened. In October of this year I canceled the policy to which the lady was very rude and I was told I would get a refund but did not. I just called to check with them about this refund and was told I still owe them money even though the policy was canceled and I was never notified about owing this money. My next move is to change my auto policy for this company is horrible and I have been with them a long time to be treated so badly.

"Inspector" supposedly deemed our home needed a new roof, citing "missing shingles" (there is ONE tab that is missing from one of the 3 tab shingles), "significant wear", "granule loss", "discolored shingles" (ALL shingles discolor in the sun)....Basically a bunch of false claims. I can't even verify that he was looking at the right home. Worst company I have had the misfortune of dealing with!! ***STAY AWAY UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE BULLIED INTO REPLACING YOUR ROOF.***

After a February fire that pretty much gutted my second floor I put in a claim. Not only was/is the settlement amount incredibly low, it was an insult. They are supposed to be paying 300 dollars a week for "expenses." It's never on time and I have to have my adjuster call over and over to find out what the problem is this month. It was due in October and it's November 6 and still no response. They actually prefer to MAIL the check and that takes four or five days, this when they can send it securely in a matter of seconds with a state routing and account number. Backward? You bet and they flat don't care about your problems. Do yourself a BIG favor and don't hire Progressive. They don't have a customer service department with live people like their car insurance does. Because of this I'll be leaving at the end of this nightmare. A company with good CS is a definite must and this isn't one of those. Too bad they'll lose my car insurance business too.

Progressive increased my premium by 100% to $3400/yr. Others had increases of 30 to 50%, but my policy was more than doubled. I have never filed a claim, and the usual reasoning that "Florida has hurricanes" doesn't apply because others at a townhall meeting had increases but much less, and NONE of them had a 100% increase. I'm selling my home because of Progressive and their unmitigated greed. I will never do business with them again.
