New Orleans firefighters battled a two-alarm fire that damaged three homes in the East Carrollton area Thursday morning.

Firefighters were called to the 7800 block of Hickory Street just after 11 a.m., according to the New Orleans Fire Department. There, the right side of a single-family home was engulfed in flames, threatening the two-story, wood-framed double next door.

Firefighters issued a second alarm two minutes after arriving on scene. Sixteen NOFD units and 47 firefighters had the blaze under control by 11:48 a.m., according to the fire department.

The house that initially caught fire was severely damaged, and both neighboring houses sustained damage to their exterior walls.

No injuries were reported, and none of the homes' residents were present when the fire started, firefighters said.

The owner of the home that initially caught fire told officials that she had left the house Thursday morning to run a few errands and returned to find smoke billowing from her door.

NOFD said the fire's cause is under investigation.
