Watch: Columbus police procession escorts body of officer killed in motorcycle crash

Bethany Bruner
Columbus Dispatch

A procession of law enforcement vehicles traveled through downtown Columbus Thursday morning as the body of an officer who died in a motorcycle crash left the hospital.

Andrew Mott, 36, died Wednesday morning at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center from injuries he suffered in a motorcycle crash in Delaware County.

Mott had been a Columbus police officer for five years and was driving home from his shift when the crash took place. Mott primarily worked as a patrol officer in the city's 16th precinct, which covers the Downtown area.

On Thursday morning, dozens of police officers, including many who worked with Mott, lined up outside the hospital to escort his body from the hospital to the Franklin County Coroner's office.

The procession stopped traffic on High Street and Third Street as the procession moved onto Interstate 70.

Another procession will take place when the coroner's office releases Mott's body to a funeral home.
