Arts

• Westmoreland Performing Arts Professional Theatre Company will present the classic rock opera, “Jesus Christ Superstar,” at 7:30 p.m. March 29 and 30 at the Palace Theatre, Greensburg. Tickets: 724-836-8000 or palacetheatre.org.

Church News

• Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 140 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Greensburg, will host a Lenten luncheon and worship service Thursdays through March 28 at the church. The service begins at 12:05 p.m. and the luncheon is afterward in the social room. Luncheon cost: $5.

Class

• The Westmoreland County chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association will offer a seminar, “Garden Pollinators: Creating A Backyard Habitat,” at 6 p.m. April 3 at Sunset Italian Restaurant, 302 Urania Ave., Greensburg. There will be a 30-minute presentation followed by a self-pay dinner and door prize giveaway. Free soil test kits will be available. All PSU graduates welcome. Fundraisers

• Harrold Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 671 Baltzer Meyer Pike, Hempfield, is conducting a shoe drive to help start up shoe micro-enterprises in more than 26 developing countries. Gently worn and new shoes in all sizes and styles can be dropped off through March 31 at the church or at Aroma Joe’s, 891 N. Greengate Road, Hempfield.

• Jeannette Knights of Columbus hosts bingo at 7 p.m. Fridays in Mersinger Hall at Ascension Church, 615 Division St. Doors open at 6 p.m. and early birds begin at 6:30 p.m. Players younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Smoke-free venue. Food will be available, and there will be a 50-50 and instant bingos. Details: 724-523-9244.

School News

• Registration and screening for students who will enter the 3-year-old and 4-year-old K4 kindergarten classes at R.K. Mellon Elementary School in the Ligonier Valley School District will be by appointment from 8:30 to 10:45 a.m. and 12:30 to 2:45 p.m. April 2 and 3 at the school. Children must be 3 or 4 years old by the start of the 2024 school year. Children must attend registration. Bring your child’s state birth certificate, immunization records, proof of residency and child custody/guardianship paperwork, if applicable. A 2023 W-2 or tax return must be provided to qualify for the income-based Pre-K Counts Program. Appointments: 724-238-5663.

Veterans News

• In observation of Vietnam War Veterans Day, Norwin Elks will host a free lunch for all veterans April 2 at the at the Elks Lodge, 135 Elks Lane, Manor. Space is limited. Reservations required by March 27: 724-392-4555, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. Leave a message with your name and telephone number. Your call will be returned no later than the next business day.
