Latasha Mott singled out Neffy for punishment and rage that ended in child’s death, friend says: Long before Neffy Harris was beaten to death, she had become a growing target of her mother’s rage, a friend says. Latasha Mott was constantly punishing the little girl for wetting her pants, beating her at least once and always singling her out for worse treatment than her five siblings, said Lachima Smith, a neighbor and friend. Mott, 29, was charged Monday with killing Neffy after police said she admitted beating the child to death in the shower with a belt Jan. 6, then eventually burying the body in a field off of Salt Springs Road.

CPS workers who handled Ashton’s case step down before they could be fired: The Onondaga County Child Protective caseworker and supervisor who handled Ashton DeGonzaque’s case before he died of a suspected drug overdose resigned on Wednesday.
