Prince Harry was warned he “could be targeted” by Donald Trump over his immigration court battle.
The Duke of Sussex is involved in a bitter court fight over his US visa application, after conservative organisation The Heritage Foundation demanded to know if he lied about his past drug use on the form. In his book Spare, Harry claimed he had taken cocaine, magic mushrooms and marijuana in his late teens and early 20s, but critics are keen to understand if he confessed to this during his visa application. While the Department of Homeland Security has so far refused to give details of Harry’s application, the foundation accused Joe Biden’s government of giving Harry preferential treatment because of his royal status.
Now, the 39-year-old has ended up in the sights of Trump, who made comments about Harry’s legal battle during an interview last week. The ex-president, who is making another controversial bid for the White House, slammed Harry for his behaviour, and seemingly suggested he wouldn’t have approved his visa application.

“I wouldn’t protect him. He betrayed the Queen. That’s unforgivable. He would be on his own if it was down to me,” he told the Daily Express.
The feud between Trump and the Sussexes began back in 2016, when during a Comedy Central panel show, Meghan called him “misogynistic” and “divisive”. The Suits star, who was not yet in a relationship with Harry, then joked she might move to Canada if he was elected president. Three years later, before Trump visited the UK, he was asked by The Sun for his thoughts on Meghan’s comments, to which he replied: “I didn’t know that. What can I say? I didn’t know that she was nasty.”
Fuelling the feud between them, Meghan and Harry then seemingly backed Joe Biden ahead of the presidential election in 2020, as they encouraged Americans to vote. The Duchess called it the “most important election of our lifetime”, while Harry said in a veiled dig at Trump’s controversial campaign: “It’s vital that we reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity.”
Trump then retaliated by claiming Meghan had “disrespected” Queen Elizabeth, and had led Harry “by the nose”. In an interview with Piers Morgan in 2022, he predicted the Sussexes would divorce, and bitterly added: “It’ll end, and it’ll end bad… I want to know what’s going to happen when Harry decides he’s had enough of being bossed around… Or maybe when she decides that she likes some other guy better. I want to know what’s going to happen when it ends, OK?”
