Fort Worth was established in 1849 as an Army outpost on a bluff overlooking the Trinity River. Today, the city still embraces its Western heritage and a history of strong local arts patronage and began promoting itself as the City of Cowboys and Culture. Fort Worth is home to Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth as well as The Art Institute of Fort Worth, Texas Christian University, Tarrant County College, Texas Wesleyan University and a campus of University of Texas at Arlington. Other sites of interest include Kimbell Art Museum, Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, Texas Civil War Museum, Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame and the Fort Worth Zoo.
