Florida high school coach found dead in storm drain after trying to retrieve lost keys, family says
A beloved Key West High School basketball coach was found dead on Saturday, police told NBC6. Dexter Butler, who was also a history teacher and little league baseball coach, was found in a storm drain near the school's gym where he was on his way to meet with some players, NBC6 reports. According to police, they do not believe foul play was involved. Family members say the 38-year-old dropped his keys in the storm drain and then fell and drowned while he was attempting to get them out. Butler's friend Rick Lopez told NBC6 he took the grate out, and something happened to make him fall in. “He was just full of life,” Lopez told NBC6. “Dexter had so much life to him, and he gave so much of his time. He really had a personality that was so large and so kind and gentle at the same time.”According to NBC6, Butler was also a husband and father. A GoFundMe page was set up to help with costs after Butler's death.
