Legendary boxing trainer Freddie Roach has trained some of the greatest boxers in the sport’s history, and he’s backing 23-year-old Irish rising star Callum Walsh.
Walsh, who has the backing of UFC’s Dana White and is sponsored by Conor McGregor’s Forged Irish Stout, is headlining his second card at Madison Square Garden against vetera Dauren Yeleussinov, which will air live on UFC Fight Pass.
According to Roach, despite Walsh’s growing profile, the young boxer is still focused and training hard in the gym.
“His ability, his heart, he comes in and trains hard every day, we have sparring days three days a week and he’s kicking a– all three days.”
Walsh is maintaining a level head but is still honored to have the backing of some of the most influential people in combat sports.
“If you would have told me three years ago, I would have never believed you, everyday I’m waking up and seeing if I’m still here you know, it feels like a dream. I’m enjoying it.
