READING, Pa. - The City of Reading announced trick-or-treating hours Thursday for the upcoming Halloween holiday.

Trick-or-treating will take place Tuesday, October 31st, from 5 to 8 p.m.

City officials are asking residents who plan on handing out treats to turn on their porch lights to make it easier to identify participating homes.

Drivers are also encouraged to be extremely cautious during these hours as children will be in costumes crossing the streets.

The city offered the following tips to help encourage a safe Halloween experience:

• Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers.

• Choose face paint and makeup instead of masks to reduce the risk of blocking a child's vision.

• Make sure costumes are the correct size to prevent trips and falls.

• Have kids carry flashlights to help them see and be seen by drivers.

• Please keep an eye on the road for vehicles.

• Walk on sidewalks and cross streets at intersections and crosswalks. Don't walk in the streets.
