GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — A new test can detect Alzheimer’s disease early, and you can get it through your healthcare provider, experts say.

Jim Rollins keeps memorable videos of his wife Susan Rollins. They’ve been together for 56 years.

“Wonderful. A very wonderful marriage. Great kids. Great grandkids. A very sweet and precious wife,” Rollins said.

Jim has held onto an unshakeable love while caring for his wife, who has had Alzheimer’s disease for the past eight years.

“It just breaks my heart to see how she has lost her memory … She just can’t do anything on her own,” Jim said.

A new blood test is available at your local Labcorp. The test aims to provide earlier detection of the disease.

It can predict Alzheimer’s disease so doctors can make better decisions for the patient’s care.

Hackensack University Medical Center Dr. Manisha Parulekar calls it a game changer.

“The big advantage of the new blood test is access to accurate diagnosis,” Dr. Parulekar said.

Jim said he is delighted Alzheimer’s research has progressed and hopes the test can prepare families and their loved ones

“Just remember to have a lot of patience and do research and love the person that you’re caring for … Just love them and accept them as they are,” Jim said.

Your doctor can request the test for you.
