A bill aimed to protect minors has been signed into law.

Governor Brad Little signed House Bill 498, known as the 'Online Child Safety Act.'

It provides an accountability measure to online content providers for content that's harmful to minors.

In Idaho, content providers would be liable if they haven't provided an age verification process online before they provide access to content.

Local State Representative Dustin Manwaring says he voted for this and thinks it's a good step to protecting kids in Idaho.

"I think you can argue it that there is an epidemic of harmful material on the internet and accessible to our kids and so we're trying to put in some accountability measures that provide, empower parents, really, with some options that the parents can know that there is going to be some age verification procedures online if there's this type of pornography and harmful material and if there's not, then hopefully these content providers aren't doing business in Idaho," says Dustin Manwaring, State Representative, District 29.

It goes into effect July 1.
