FARRELL, Pennsylvania (MyValleyTributes) – Christy Ray “Chris” McMurdy, 66 of Farrell, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, in Cleveland Clinic Main Campus.

Chris was born on July 21, 1957, in Grove City, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Boyd and Jean Elizabeth (Campbell) McMurdy.

He attended Farrell High School.

A “Jack of All Trades,” he worked as a custodian for O’Brien Memorial Nursing Home, Masury, Ohio, a citrus packer for Heeller Bros., Winter Garden, Florida and as a floor technician for Rora Chemicals, Sharpsville.

Chris loved to make other people’s day better and bring a smile to their faces, which was easy for him since he loved to tell jokes. This resulted in a “gang” of friends and many people who loved him. A classic car enthusiast, he took pride in cleaning vehicles and looked forward to attending car shows. Additionally, he liked doing yard work and spending time with his dog, Salvestor, who recently passed away.

His wife, the former, Spring Viola Venetta, whom he married on August 29, 1987, passed away on March 6, 2014. Chris spent the last ten years mourning her death and missed her dearly.

He is survived by four daughters, Christine McMurdy and Amy Rigby (Thomas Clark), all of Sharon, Jennifer McMurdy of Farrell and Robin Hammonds (Leroy) of Sharon; three grandchildren, Sabrina and Robert McMurdy and Makayla Hall; a host of adopted grandchildren; four sisters, Rita Marshall (Bob) of Florida, Sonja Watson of Farrell, Lynne Lomas of Florida and Kay McMillian; three brothers, Albert Whitehead (Claudelle) and Randy Purdy (Kathy), both of Farrell and Wayne Sides (Ruby) of Florida; a sister-in-law, Sharon McMurdy of S. Pymatuning Township; a brother-in-law, Darrell Venetta, Jr. of Sharon and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Chris was preceded in death by a grandson, Jacob Adam Rigby; a brother, Boyd McMurdy; two brothers-in-law, Thomas and Robert Venetta and a special niece, Marcy Buhl Carty.
