The Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed early Tuesday, March 26, 2024, after a cargo ship lost power and slammed into it, sending at least eight people into the chilly waters below. The container ship hit the bridge around 1:30 a.m., triggering the bridge to crumple and the ship to catch fire. The U.S. Coast Guard called off the search efforts on Monday. Two people were pulled from the water while six others, all part of a construction crew working on the bridge at the time of the accident, remained missing, presumed dead.
