WILLIAMSTOWN — Williamstown police are working with state authorities in the search for a missing person after their car was found near a remote hiking trail.
Fae Morgana Barbone, 40, was last seen in Williamstown on March 7, according to a press release from the Massachusetts State Police. The same day, Barbone's car was reported as being seen parked on a street in Augusta, Maine.
On Tuesday morning, a suspicious vehicle parked at the end of Berlin Road, near a remote hiking trail that brushes along the New York state border, was reported to the Williamstown Police Department. Officers responding to the scene identified the car, a black Ford Fiesta, as Barbone’s.
The Williamstown Police Department activated its drone unit and K-9 unit to search for Barbone yesterday, per a press release from Chief Michael Ziemba. The local units were assisted by the New York State Police, the Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts Environmental Police and New York Environmental Conservation Police due to the rural terrain.
Barbone was not found after the first day’s search efforts. The search resumed around 8 a.m. Wednesday, and residents were asked to avoid the area near Berlin Road and to be aware of increased police presence.
Barbone is described as 6 feet, 2 inches tall, white, and 180 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. Barbone was last seen wearing a light blue sweater and black leggings, per the State Police.
The press release from Ziemba mentions that there were unconfirmed sightings of Barbone in North Adams and the Carolinas, and at least one confirmed interaction with a law enforcement officer in Maine.
Barbone’s last known address was in Hanson. The Abington Police Department was the first to initiate the search for Barbone.
Anyone with potential information on Barbone’s whereabouts should contact the dispatch center at 413-458-5733, or their local law enforcement agency.
