KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A Kansas City man has been charged following a fatal shooting in the early morning hours of March 20.

The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office announced Tuesday that 60-year-old Tyron Lee Sims is charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action.

Court records filed over the weekend said Kansas City, Missouri Police Department officers were dispatched to the area of the shooting at around 5 a.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2024. Officers found the victim, 45-year-old Willie Spencer, dead in the area of 38th Street and Wyandotte in Kansas City.

Spencer had been shot twice and surveillance video in the area captured him walking northbound when another man was seen chasing him.

Audio of two gunshots was captured on the video and the shooter, who was wearing a black hat and hooded sweatshirt with a pinkie ring, fled on foot to the north. The man was seen with distinctive clothing and jewelry and court records said after obtaining a search warrant, officers found medication bottles with the defendant’s name as well as ammunition and an empty pistol case.
