Narragansett, R.I. (WLNE) — Special Olympics Rhode Island said it has raised over $200,000 during its “Plunge Weekend” on March 23 and 24.

The weekend featured three different plunge events: the Unified Champion Schools Plunge, where over 500 middle and high school students from 30 Unified teams plunged at Roger Wheeler State Beach; the Torch Run Super Plunge, where 14 people dove into the water at Salty Brine State beach every hour between 1 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday; and a singular Torch Run Plunge where recruits from the Rhode Island Police Academy, Law Enforcement Torch Run members, and Special Olympics ‘Arctic Athletes’ dove.

The schools plunge raised nearly $65,000 while the Torch Run Super Plunge raised $200,000.

Special Olympics R.I. added that additional donations for the schools plunge are being accepted through March 29, while donations for the Torch Run are being accepted through April 30.
