Aleve partners with non-profit to tackle opioid epidemic

JACKSON, Tenn — Experts say every 30 minutes in the U.S., someone’s life is lost to prescription opioid overdose.

Mothers Against Prescription Drug Abuse, a nationally recognized non-profit has launched a campaign to educate and encourage people on alternatives other than opioids to cope with pain.

It’s in partnership with Aleve.

Experts say opioids bring certain risks with them, including addiction, abuse, and sometimes death.

Recovering addicts share that in addition to taking the pain away, prescription pills also give a buzz or euphoric feeling.

“These are people who are just trying to get out of pain. We’re innocent in the beginning and at some point we get addicted without even realizing it. The conversation is never really had about this is a possibility, this could happen to you. This is even likely to happen if you are on this dosage for this long,” said Matt Robinson, a voice from the Painful Truth Campaign.

Opioids are prescribed more in the United States than anywhere else in the world.
