PlayStation Plus Essential free games for April 2024

PlayStation has announced the free games for PS Plus Essential subscribers for April 2024.

Essential is the base tier of Sony's subscription service, which lets PS5 and PS4 gamers play online, as well as add a handful of games to their accounts every month. Once claimed, these games stay in your library and can be played as long as you have an active subscription, which means you can let it lapse and re-subscribe.

Leading the pack from April 2 is Immortals of Aveum (PS5), a big-budget title that was released eight months ago.

It's a first-person shooter that sets itself apart from the crowd with a fantasy setting, magic instead of guns, a strong focus on story, and a surprising number of puzzles. It also includes voice acting from Suits' Gina Torres. You can read Digital Spy's review for it here.

Minecraft Legends (PS5/PS4) is a real-time action-strategy take on the blockbuster block-building series. While the story campaign is the main focus here, there are also co-op and competitive modes bundled into this title, which came out last year as well.

Finally, there's Skul: The Hero Slayer (PS4), an indie platformer with roguelite elements. This one is said to be simple to play in terms of controls, but it has plenty of mechanical depth for players who want to go looking for it.

It's also been announced that Overwatch 2 is getting a DLC bundle exclusive for PS Plus members.

It includes: Beekeeper Sigma Legendary Skin, Art Deco Symmetra Legendary Skin, Runner Sojourn Epic Skin, Punker Queen Junker Queen Epic Skin, Construction Ramattra Epic Skin, Matsuri Kiriko Epic Skin, Cassia Lifeweaver Epic Skin, Amethyst Illari Epic Skin, Rugby Mauga Epic Skin and 5x Battle Pass Tier Skips.
