Melbourne High lockdown ends after 90 minutes and campus-wide search by police

Police armed with rifles and with K-9s placed Melbourne High School on a temporary lockdown as they searched several campus buildings to investigate an unspecified incident, Brevard Public School officials reported Monday.

The lockdown ended at 2:10 p.m. after a 90-minute long search of the campus.

"We just got a call that there may be something going on there so we are responding," Melbourne Police Lt. Steven Sadoff said as students were ordered to remain in place during the lockdown. No injuries or incidents were reported as officers went through the campus.

The incident began about noon at the 2,000-student campus after school officials reported a potential threat to the campus. Multiple patrol cars were seen at the 74 Bulldog site, with officers carrying guns while searching the buildings on school grounds. District security officers also responded to the site. An investigation is underway.

Classes continued throughout the day.
