Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s officers went to the Lincoln Lodge motel on US Highway 52 South Friday after receiving a tip from the Lafayette Police Department that 52-year-old Richard Mitchell was “dealing controlled substances from the motel,” according to the probable cause affidavit.

When deputies knocked on the door of the room Mitchell was allegedly in, two males reportedly climbed out the rear window and allegedly fled on foot, the report said.

According to the affidavit, Mitchell was apprehended by officers and found with two baggies containing 72.8 grams of methamphetamine and two baggies containing 5.7 grams of cocaine in his pockets.

Officers searched Mitchell’s motel room and allegedly located “several items of contraband,” including 4.9 grams of heroin, 19.1 grams of “suspected synthetic drugs,” a small quantity of methamphetamine, several syringes, pipes and a digital scale.

Mitchell was preliminarily charged with seven felonies Wednesday morning on dealing in methamphetamine in amounts of 10 or more grams, a level two felony, possession of methamphetamine of 28 grams or more, dealing in cocaine, both level three felonies, dealing in a narcotic drug, a level four felony, possession of cocaine, a level five felony, possession of a narcotic drug and unlawful possession of a syringe, both level six felonies, and misdemeanor charges of possession of controlled substances and possession of paraphernalia.
