Minor League Transactions: March 1–20, 2024
Spring training camps are in full swing, and organizations are lining up their minor league rosters. This is the first time they have done so with a 165-player limit in effect for their five domestic affiliates. MLB lowered that limit from 180 players, which was in effect from 2021 to 2023.
MLB organizations may roster up to 175 domestic minor leauge players in the offseason. Now that spring has sprung, most orgs must make personnel decisions to comply with the 165-player limit. This can be accomplished by releasing players or placing them on the long-term injured list.
An unlimited number of players may be placed on the full-season IL and not count against the player limit. These players may not appear in a minor league game in 2024, not even on rehab.
Likewise, players on the 60-day injured list do not count against the limit of 165. Each organization may have no more than 15 players at a time on the 60-day IL.
This installment collects all transactions involving players who aren’t on 40-man rosters for the period March 1 to March 20. As always, transactions are conveyed by Major League Baseball.
All players are listed with corresponding minor league level in parentheses. These refer to players’ offseason reserve roster placement. For signees and optional assignments, they are not official Opening Day assignments.
